Solving Multi-Step Equations

Tier A

Your task is to write 5 problems that involve two-step equations. These problems will be given to your peers in Tier A to solve. You must solve each problem you write and show your work in doing so. This will serve as the key in checking other’s work. Try to make these problems challenging. Your grade will be based on how well the problems are written (must involve 2 steps), and how well you answer the problems (your key). We will compile a set of problems, one problem from each student, to create a quiz to end the unit.

Tier B

Your task is to complete problems 32-38 on page 169. Once you have completed these problems, you are to check your work with a partner. Any discrepancies in your answers must be resolved and you must agree on an answer. Once you have completed these problems, you and your partner will write 1 word problem that involves a two-step equation. Make the problem as challenging as you wish but you must answer the problem and show your work in doing so. Your grade will be based on your answers to the 7 book problems, how well the problem you and your partner wrote is written (must involve 2 steps), and how well you and your partner answer the problem (your key). We will compile a set of problems, the one problem from each partnership, to create a quiz to end the unit.

Tier C

Your task is to complete problems 17-31 ODDS on pages 169. Once you have completed these problems, you are to check your work with a partner. Any discrepancies in your answers must be resolved and you must agree on an answer. After you have agreed on your answer, check your answers in the back of the book. Once you have completed these problems, you and your partner will write 1 word problem that involves a two-step equation. Make the problem as challenging as you wish but you must answer the problem and show your work in doing so. Your grade will be based on your answers to the book problems, how well the problem you and your partner wrote is written (must involve 2 steps), and how well you and your partner answer the problem (your key). We will compile a set of problems, the one problem from each partnership, to create a quiz to end the unit.
